ISSUES presents the second solo show at the gallery with abstract painter Ida Persson. Two years ago, in Ida’s first show with ISSUES, we saw the Caretaker triptych where each of the large paintings portrayed a Conductor. Amongst Ida Persson’s categories of subjects, the Conductor is an abstract architectural being with arms that may conduct, control but also embrace and protect. In her new exhibition at the gallery, Safeguard, four large paintings each show suspended diamond-shaped structures with protruding spikes, titled Anchor I–IV. The aggressive form of an anchor has the function of harbouring in a storm, which brings to mind the dynamics of safety and aggression in human interaction. We are delighted to be showing Ida Persson’s further illumination of psychology and politics in abstract and architectural forms.
The exhibition is accompanied by a text written by Victoria Percovich Gutierrez, founder of CSAM (Centrum för studier av markanvändning)
